Getting the opening size right
Door openings are the single most common regret we hear about. A door that fits the car you own today is a problem the day you buy a dual cab with a roof rack, or a caravan with an air conditioner on top. The extra cost of a wider, taller opening at design stage is small. Changing it after the frame is engineered is not.
We size openings from real dimensions. Tell us the tallest and widest thing that has to pass through — the caravan, the boat on its trailer, the tractor with the cab up, the ute with the canopy — and we work the door and wall height back from that, allowing for the door drum and the guides.
- Standard single garage openings suit most cars and utes
- Double openings suit two vehicles side by side without a centre column
- Caravan, boat and machinery openings need height checked against the load, not the vehicle
- Wall height must clear the door opening plus the drum and headroom above it
