Everything above the slab can be adjusted, replaced or added to later. The slab cannot. It carries the building, ties the frame down against wind uplift, and sets the finished floor level you live with forever. We pour engineered slabs using Boral, Holcim and Mansell Premix concrete.

The slab is structural, not just a floor

A shed slab is engineered. Thickness, reinforcement, edge thickening and footing design all come from the engineering for your building on your site — the wind classification, the span, the height and the soil conditions. The frame bolts down into it, and in a wind event the slab is what stops the building lifting.

That is why we do not treat the slab as a separate trade you organise yourself. It is designed with the building, and the anchor positions have to match the frame exactly.

Site conditions around the Wide Bay

Soil varies enormously across the region — reactive clays in some areas, sand closer to the coast, and rock in parts of the Burnett. Soil classification affects footing design, and it is one of the reasons we ask for your full site address on the quote form. A slab designed for a stable site and poured on a reactive one is a problem that shows up as cracking a few years later.

Fall, drainage and where the water goes in a heavy wet season are part of the same conversation. Getting the finished floor level right keeps stormwater out of the shed.

Can I organise my own slab and just get the shed?
We strongly recommend against it. The slab is engineered with the building and the anchor positions have to match the frame. When one contractor is responsible for both, there is nobody to blame when something does not line up.
How thick should a shed slab be?
There is no single answer — it comes from the engineering for your building, your wind classification and your soil. A domestic garage and a machinery shed carrying a loaded tractor are very different problems.
How long does the slab need to cure before the shed goes up?
The slab needs to reach adequate strength before the frame is erected and bolted down. We build that into the program, and it is part of the 8–14 week timeline we quote.
