Why a PA door earns its keep

Every time you open a roller door you let in heat, dust, rain and, in this part of the world, whatever is living in the garden. A PA door lets you get in and out without any of that. It also means the big door stays shut and locked while you are working, which is better for security and much better for keeping the shed cool in summer.

For workshops there is a practical safety angle too: a second exit that does not depend on a motorised door.

Doors built for steel buildings

A house door does not belong in a shed wall. PA doors from Taurean and Larnec are made for steel-framed buildings — the frames suit shed wall construction, the finishes handle the environment, and the hardware is chosen for the job rather than for a hallway.

Larnec build a range specifically aimed at rural and industrial buildings, which is why they turn up on a lot of our machinery sheds. Taurean lets us supply the roller door and the PA door from the one manufacturer, so colours and finishes coordinate.

Where to put it

Position matters more than people expect. Put the PA door on the side you actually approach the shed from — usually the path from the house — not on whichever wall looked convenient on the plan. Think about which way it should swing, whether you will ever carry something bulky through it, and whether the door needs to be clear of a bench or racking on the inside.

We work this out with you during design, along with window positions, so the internal layout still makes sense once the shed is fitted out.
