Merlin QuietDrive Pro roller door opener — the Merlin and Grifco door automation Spartan Sheds fits to roller doors in Bundaberg QLD

Automatic openersdomestic and commercial

An automatic opener turns a roller door from a chore into something you never think about. We fit Merlin® openers on domestic garages and sheds, and Grifco® units where a door is commercial-sized or getting used dozens of times a day.

  • MerlinDomestic roller door and garage door openers
  • GrifcoCommercial and industrial door operators

Domestic openers — Merlin

For a house garage, a workshop or a domestic shed, a Merlin opener does everything most people need: remote operation, safety reversing, and smartphone control on the models that support it. It is a well-supported brand with parts and service available locally, which matters more than headline features when a unit needs attention in five years.

We size the opener to the door. A large double door or a tall caravan door needs more capable gear than a single garage door, and running an undersized motor is how you shorten its life.

  • Remote handsets and wall controls
  • Safety reversing on obstruction
  • Smartphone control available on supported models
  • Battery backup options so the door still opens in a power outage

Commercial and industrial — Grifco

Grifco operators are built for doors that cycle constantly — workshops, transport depots, packing sheds and industrial units. Where a domestic motor would be worn out inside a couple of years, a commercial operator is designed for that duty cycle, and can be specified with the control gear a workplace needs.

If your building is commercial, tell us how often the door will be used and how many people will operate it. That drives the specification more than the door size does.

Plan the power at design stage

An automatic opener needs a power point in the right place, at the right height, near the door. That is a five-minute conversation at design stage and an expensive retro-fit afterwards, especially in a shed with sheeted walls. When you tell us you want automation, we make sure the opener position is on the plan so your electrician runs the circuit once.

Roller door motors — questions we get asked

Can you fit an opener to a roller door later?
Yes, openers can be retro-fitted to most roller doors. The awkward part is usually power, not the motor — so it pays to have the power point installed while the shed is being built.
Do roller door motors work in a blackout?
Not without backup. Most openers have a manual release so you can operate the door by hand, and some models offer a battery backup so the door keeps working through an outage. Ask us if that matters for your build.
What is the difference between Merlin and Grifco?
Merlin openers are designed for domestic garage and shed doors. Grifco operators are built for commercial and industrial doors with a much higher duty cycle. We match the operator to how hard the door will actually work.
